"4 1/2 YEARS"
a play in workshop
When I was in London working on The Scottsboro Boys at the Young Vic, I began to develop a play under the guidance of David Lan, the Artistic Director at the time, and producer Ben Cooper.
That play, "4 1/2 Years", is a story about addiction. Everyone struggles with addiction. If it's not you it's someone you love. What if you beat the odds and make it out of poverty only to fall back in again through drugs and alcohol? How do you come back from that and find your way to the full life that's waiting for you?
"4 1/2 Years" is a theatre piece narrated through voiceover and brought to life through ' lived in moments' staged, choreographed and voiced by the actor. Sound design, lighting design, projection (still and video), a chair and a desk provide the spaces, locations, and circumstances surrounding the story. It is a tumultuous journey of highs and lows, landings and failings, ultimately finding it's way to standing steadily on the ride of a lifetime.
Personally, this project is about creative responsibility. When I look around for opportunities I see fewer and fewer spaces for what I have to offer. I would like to use all of myself in the projects that I spend so much time and energy creating. This piece does just that.
I am now looking for a new home where I can continue my work and finish developing the piece. If you would like more information or a sample of the material, please reach out to me at the link below!
